Features to know about

Keep the Rear End Level: 2,000-lb Load Leveling Capacity

When you’re towing a small camper or hauling weekend gear, sagging in the rear can throw off your stance and steering. The Hellwig EZ-990 Helper Springs add up to 2,000 lbs of load leveling capacity above your factory leaf springs to keep things even. The truck stays level and stable under light loads, so handling and braking feel confident and balanced.

Cut Down on Bounce and Roll: Helper Springs That Flex With the Load

Uneven pavement or shifting cargo can make your ride bounce or sway. These custom helper springs flex with your leaf springs to limit that movement, reducing sway and body roll while keeping your ride steady. By taking some strain off your factory suspension, they also help extend the life of your springs, tires, and brakes.

Dial In the Support You Need: Adjustable U-Bolts for Different Loads

Every load is different—sometimes it’s evenly balanced, sometimes not. The EZ-990’s U-bolts can be adjusted to suit different weights, and each side can be tuned independently. That means you can tighten one side up for uneven loads or back it off when things are lighter. It’s a simple way to fine-tune support without tools beyond what most folks already have.

Built Strong for Long-Term Use: Durable Steel with Corrosion Resistance

You want helper springs that hold up over time. The Hellwig EZ-990 uses durable steel construction with a silver vein hammer tone powder coat finish that resists corrosion. The easy bolt-on design installs above your factory leaf springs using included mounting hardware and a step bracket style leaf that avoids contact with factory parts, giving you solid performance over years of towing and hauling.

Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Hellwig EZ-990 Helper Springs

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this Hellwig EZ-90 above axle helper spring set. These custom helper springs are going to bolt on above the factory leaf springs on your vehicle. They're gonna help reduce your sway and body roll, and prevent sagging when you're hauling heavy loads. This set is confirmed, designed specifically to fit your 2015 through 2023 Ford Transit T-150, and the T-250 cargo van. It's also going to work with the 2015 through 2023 Ford Transit T-350 cargo van, cutaway, and cab and chassis.

Now these springs will flex with the factory leaf springs to help limit your bouncing while providing optimal stability. The two springs here are going to have a weight capacity of 2000 pounds. Now when you hear that, it's very tempting to think that means it's going to increase your vehicle's weight carrying capacity by 2000 pounds, and that's not the case. There's no suspension enhancement system on the market that increases your vehicle's weight carrying capacity. So think of it less like a second set of hands that's helping lift more weight.

Think of it more like a back brace. So it's there to just kind of help take some of that strain off your factory suspension, help it to operate a little bit more efficiently, extend the life of your factory suspension, your tires, and your brakes. Now these are going to be very easy to get installed. It's just a bolt-on installation, so it will bolt on above the factory leaf springs. They do include instructions to walk you through that process to make sure that you have everything installed properly.

But one note is that you do not want to install these on vehicles with composite or plastic leaf springs, as these will be more durable, and could potentially damage your factory leaf springs if they are of that composite construction. Now when you're talking about suspension enhancement, most people, first thing that comes to their mind is airbags. So when you're comparing these to airbags, there are some benefits, some downsides. With your airbags, you do have to adjust the air pressure quite a bit. So if you have a heavier load, you'll add air in, give you that firmer engagement.

If you have a lighter load, you'll let air out, get you that lighter engagement. So there is a lot of maintenance involved in that. With this, you aren't gonna have that maintenance that you have to worry about, but you also aren't gonna have the same level of adjustability. So our U-bolts here can be tightened to give you a firmer engagement, but really, that's the only way to adjust these. They're more of a set it and forget it sort of option. You can adjust the springs individually from your driver's side and passenger side to give you support, if you have a really heavy toolbox, or something on the one side of your vehicle, you can get more support on that side. So they can be adjusted side to side, but there's gonna be fine tuning that can be done, but there's not that continuous adjustment available to you. So again, for some people, they might prefer the airbags to have that control over how much engagement they're gonna have. Other people, they're gonna prefer having that kind of set it and forget it, not have to worry about adding air pressure, taking air out, that sort of thing. So kind of just depends on what you're looking for. These are made here in the USA of a very durable steel construction. It's gonna ensure a nice long-lasting performance. If I zoom in here, you can see this does have a silver vein hammer tone powder coat finish. That's gonna help prevent corrosion. Make sure that these last a nice long time for you. They do come with a lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any issues with them, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. But overall, I think this is just gonna be a great way to add a little bit more stability, some support for your factory suspension system. And that completes our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

I have had three straight weeks of hauling sizable loads in my truck and install these right before the most recent load. Truck sits more level with the same load in it and the handling around corners and tight spots and the way that it handles the bumps has improved dramatically.

by:

Came quickly, well packed and complete. I've seen complaints about the hardware, but it seemed fine. The bracket bolts are oddly sized at 13/16.
One concern on my 97 F-150 is that theHellwig brackets seem too long to tighten up sufficiently. I have run out of thread with the spring gap at about one inch.
Had I realized that I'd have to remove the leaf spring brackets to install this I probably would have paid to get the ones that mount over the spring bracket. Getting 28 year old bolt loose is a bear.

by:

Easy to install and works great so far.

by:

The Hellwig helper springs did exactly what I needed them to do! Pulled a 10000#
34' 5th wheel on our 16 F150 with 5 people
onboard. A lot more economical than air bags, which wouldn't work with 5th wheel frame mounts.

by:

Absolutely! For some reason the truck was sagging on the passenger side. I put the hewing helpers on both sides but snugged the passenger side down a bit and leveled the truck.

by:

Made of good material. Would try on different trucks I have

by:

They were very easy to install and I like the added stiffness it gave to my suspension. I have yet to hook up to my camper but I am looking forward to it.

by:

This is exactly what we needed to finish our customer's job. This shipping was so quick. Thank you all so much!!

by:

Parts ordered, shipping box was compromised, missing parts to do the install.
Now i need to fab a square u-bolt to use the product like i planed this weekend.

by:

Ez-990 helper springs sagged with 800lb camper and bottomed while driving over speed bumps unless creeping. Unloaded there was noticeable tightness, almost binding feeling on bumps. I removed and checking options like airbags or Sumo.

by:

These work great. Very easy install. I have a bed slide and a camper top, and these brought the rear back up to the proper height.

by:

Great product. Quick shipping. Would buy here again.

by:

Product seems good, instructions are terrible . Can't find a video with my product for install anywhere .

by:

Easy to install, very effective and didn’t have much effect on ride quality. Mine worked on the lowest setting with a 16’ camper.

by:

These springs eliminated the rear sag from adding a shell, rubber bed mat, and a little gear.
Easy to install as well, but recomend having a 7/16X20 tap/die to clean threads on supplied u-bolts.

by:

Easy to install. It should help stabilize the rear springs when I tow our boat.

by:

The product fit well and installed would have been a breeze if it wasn’t for the hardware. The u bolts are very poor quality with burrs and poorly tolerances threads. In addition only half the hardware was the correct size. One set of nuts was too big for the u bolts. The hardware was also low quality. In my opinion it should have all been grade 8 corrosion resistant hardware and it is much lower grade. I ended up having to buy all new hardware to be able to install at an additional cost. Now that it is installed the product works fantastic. Just be aware you may need to purchase extra hardware to get it installed.

by:

Helper springs made my Ram 1500 Conversion Van have a more comfortable ride. The springs raised the profile of the back of the van by about 1-1/2", which is not noticeable and the van still looks good. My RV Travel trailer lowered the back half of the van by about 1", before I installed the helper springs. The helper springs should enhance the ride of the van.

by:

The springs lifted my Tacoma with a cap about an inch higher. It would have been more helpful if the directions indicated that a C-Clamp would be useful to compress the spring ends to allow the u-bolts to be installed. The directions also indicated the long end of the spring should face forward. I measured the spring from the end to the hole and this was the same either way, so was confusing. I purchased longer axle u-bolts since the added thickness of this extra spring made the factory u-bolts too short IMO. I feel that should have been part of this kit. Lastly, the u-bolt on the driver's side did not need to be installed sideways per the instruction. It fit fine just as the other u-boults were installed. Maybe the instructions could be updated to be more accurate.

by:

I was a great addition to my RST 1500 Chevy and I transferred to my High Country 1500 Chevy and never missed a beat towing the travel trailer.

by:

Easy install great fit. Readjusted for our new trailer in 10 minutes and working wonderfully.Leveled the truck and rides smooth..

by:

Easy to install, does not affect the ride much , worked great pulling my fish house to the lake. I showed my helper springs to one of my customers, gave him the part number for his truck and he ordered them from e-trailer today. Great product.

by:

Loaded my tacoma with a portaboat on the ladder rack and a few hundred pounds of camping gear. The sag was gone after installing these. The ride is a little bit stiffer when empty as to be expected but not bad even on washboard dirt roads. These can be fairly easily installed and removed if desired. Hardest part is jacking up the truck to sit on the frame

by:

Way better than expected. Huge difference in the rear suspension. It’s almost like having a sway bar.

by:

Completely helped the squating rear on 350xl transit box truck with dual rear wheels. Improved ride and handling when loaded. Rides smooth and looks like it is supposed to.
